We are all fired up last night. The jam session was indeed an improvement. After listening to our own 90 minute recording, I can say that we improved quite a lot. It so proves that we need to be prepared for these things. That means no impromptu jams, without first rehearsing.

One thing to note though. We still need to improve on our song endings. Most of the song we play ends by fading to oblivion. Some trick or version needs to be advised and planned. Another would be to really differentiate the play between clean guitar and lead guitar. Those distorted guitar parts needs to be heard too, as well as those clean guitar sound. It sure will fire us up more.

Some of the highlights would be, me singing Heaven, Bryan Adams' 20 year old gem. Not behind the drums, but as a frontman. Some missed notes are apparent though, but most pitch ranges are covered. Drums are played by AMMR. No guitars though here, except those "guitar solos" that came out of my mouth.

Slickly played songs are Armageddon It, Knocking On Heaven's Door, Don't Cry, 60s TV, Lagu Melayu Encore, Gift Of Flesh and Always Somewhere. These are the powerfully played songs. Others have their better or worse moments.

The twin guitar terrorists MRMR and AMMR really rips the studio apart. We do felt something missing, that is, no bass are played. Just guitars, drums and vocals.

Afterwards, we went to SS2 to look for another spot to jam. The place looks better. The drums still look new, and the studio area wider. Must be a good atmosphere.

If all is well, we might be welcoming a new member, MAD from our same school to be, most of the time, a bass player.

Joseph Williams - When You Look In My Eyes

Thought I was doing love
Thought it was over
Didn't need what I needed before

The never ending story
Had an ending after all
And it hurts you when you fall

Guess I didn't believe enough
Didn't think it could happen
I gave up on myself long ago

Love had me believing
Then it turns and close the door
I couldn't trust it anymore

I'm beginning to doubt my doubts
And I'm losing faith in my faithlessness
All the grey above is clearing become blue skies
When you look in my eyes

But here in reality
It gets so confusing
Why our own habit's hard to break

My hearts afraid of losing
So i havent played the game
It always seem to end the same

I'm beginning to feel again
And I'm losing what's left of my thoughtlessness
The sun has begun to come out in my life
When you look in my eyes

You gave me something more
It's like I never loved before

PS Beautiful vocals, beautiful lyrics, beautiful piano, it needs to be heard. Heard it countless times and typed it myself. No such lyrics on the Net.

SYCLONE Finally!

SYCLONE!?

Who is SYCLONE?? OK guys.. it's only my car. Finally today, my 30 year old Mini Clubman is alive again. The culprit? The crucial alternator, which I just changed last August for 150rm! Endless thanks to Pak Syed for coming over Putrajaya, all the way from Rawang. Respect!

The Clubman has been stranded for a while now, ever since the middle of fasting month, about 3 months ago, because of a heavy downpour. To be able to drive it again, is such a passion! With some more things to do, I'll be able to rip apart Semenyih road once again!

The Crucial Jamming Session

Elo

Should tell you a little about my Thursday night.

We the band C***Y did a small jamming at 11.00pm. Some of the song that I remember playing alone will be mostly short encores, but when we played together, songs listed below are our gamble.

Guns & Roses' Knocking On Heaven's Door
Guns & Roses' Don't Cry
Def Leppard's Armageddon It
Def Leppard's Hysteria
Def Leppard's Gift Of Flesh
Nirvana's About A Girl
Scorpion's Always Somewhere
RATT's Giving Yourself Away

I brought a tape recorder to record our jamming session. All in all, our timing is getting better, especially me at the drums. Timing mishaps only occur when I do spontaneous drum rolls, about 10 or more times I suppose. Guitarplayer's timing also good, except when doing guitar licks (solos)

All of us played vocals, or in details, I did the high end vocals, while guitar wiz AMMR and MRMR swapped low and mid range vocals.

The jam ends at 12.30pm. Altogether, in the 90 minutes or so we played music, the studio itself is in various ways, substandard. But as usual, we guess ourselves are on par with the studio condition, that is, substandard. The next time, we planned to jam somewhere else, crossing our fingers to prove is is the studio that is to be blamed.

By the way, we ourselves need to improve. We are not even better than most Malaysian pop rock bands for now. OK now a short band profile.

Two Days With A Putra

Elo

The accident necessitates me to switch cars with my brother-in-law, Boy. He owns a Putra, so I guess I'll be on a fastway again. He will be helping me to get repair quotations from his friends' garages.

Two days with his Putra, proves quite a challenge to me. The slammed stance is way too low, so I scraped the tyres to the arch every time I corner. As I am a fast cornerer, I don't like this situation. So I guess I should really really slow down.

On the highway, driving is a breeze. The exhaust note is cool enough, a deep drone, not the farty type like most boyracers have. I will surely use the same brand of exhaust backbox, if ever I changed the exhaust system.

On the Semenyih road, meanwhile, I will have to drive slower than my Wira. It scrapes like nobody's business. I don't enjoy this moment one bit, except when I accelerate.

Lesson learnt. To corner, be moderate in lowering your car. Have at least an inch of clearance between arch and tyre.

By the way, the Putra is fast enough. So I guess if ever, I'll buy the early 1990s Ford Laser TX3 1.8, a car with the same power rating of 140hp, but cheaper.

Tips On Fuel Economy

anybody out there with car and wants to improve on their fuel economy, here's a tip, for manual tranny cars.

For manual cars, you need a light foot, knows when to change gears, and make your car light and always maintain the engine periodically.

Light foot means to be easy on the throttle. To apply this, try to reach, say, from 0kmh to 20kmh in first gear, in 3 or 4 seconds. For second gear, try to reach 20kmh to 40kmh in maybe, 5 to 7 seconds.

With my Proton Wira 1.3, which is quite underpowered, I can easily reach 14.5km for every liter of petrol used. That is actually very economical. I have also read some testimonials from other people about their fuel economy, which is close if not better than mine.

For every full tank of petrol filled in, I always take the time to calculate the amount of distance traveled to the amount of fuel filled, just to get my average fuel economy. This is a good practise to do, to check your engine. Any drastic change of figure means your engine may need a check-up

Try to distribute your gears to the matching speed. First gear is between the range of 0 to 20kmh, second gear is for 20 to 40kmh. Add 20 for every subsequent gearshifts. Spend a few seconds in each gear between the gearshift. Don't step on it, unless you are really in urgency.

To make a car lighter, put away anything unnecessary from your car. For example, the engine oil bottle, the groceries, etc. The closer the car to its original weight, the better. The driver itself may need to lose some weight too, as every kilogram of weight saved will save a significant amount of fuel.

Don't compromise on the periodical service of your car. Anytime this is overlooked, it could mean more money wasted, at the expense of a smaller saving.

Thank you and good night!

Thoughts

Right now, I'm thinking

about my son, i miss him
about my wife, i miss her
about my Mini, when to repair this brother of mine
about my father, and his program tomorrow
about tomorrow, when to arrive
about tonight, where to go, what to do
about myself, what I'm thinking

Gotta stop thinking, and head back to Seremban. Wanna see my son!!!!

Have a blessed Eid Mubarak everybody!

Joseph Williams - What Is She Hiding

It's not too often that I see her
So many girls would like to be her
She's so easy to imagine with my eyes closed

There's such a mystery about her
She doesn't give me time to doubt her
Come to think of it she don't give me anything

What is she hiding in her heart
Keeping from everyone else
Will she let me into her heart
If she's never been there herself

She told me beauty doesn't matter
Although without it she'd be sadder
I guess that only goes to show the grass is greener

You got a heart why don't you show it
Baby you don't even know it
Let me in there for a minute and i'll show you

PS: I actually listen thoroughly to the song, and write the lyrics myself. Can't find it on the Net.

Flouride Hazards

This is one thing that those mechanic/workshop guys need to take note of.

Just read about hydrofluoric acid, an acid created by the burning of certain synthetic rubber.

It is actually very dangerous. Other acids may only corrode the skin. This one, actually intoxicate the human body itself. It penetrates deep, ionizes itself with the water contents in the body and produces fluoride matters and other toxic stuffs. No copious amounts of water may clean the penetration, as it may do to the outer skin.

Enough said, it may be necessary to amputate the limb concerned. And even that, there's no guarantee of survival.

All in all, it is also said that fluoride from whatever source can be very dangerous.

All these readings might just be enough for me to avoid fluoride toothpaste forever.

Lessons

Got my "four day five night" infant-caring lessons already. I guess I can handle it for now.

"Muzaffar be a good kid okay!" Daddy said.

Looks like I'm off to Lumut today.

This Night

Elo

Don't feel like going to Amway tonight. Felt so close to home, I feel I should go back to my parents in USJ. It's been quite a while. Ohhh only several weeks! Gotta make up for lost times. Coincidentally my next brother was around too.

Read about MIVEC reviews by Malaysians. It seems to be an expensive commodity, installation-wise and afterwards. So I guess I must avoid it for now. Maybe just some mods to get close to 50 percent increase will do. Think 88hp, and increasing it to Putra spec, all with 1.3 liters of displacement. What should I do to achieve this?

Some options would be,
-To do port and polish to the inlet and exhaust ports
-To install a slightly larger exhaust system
-To use ram intake
-To upgrade the camshaft
-To use a lighter flywheel
-To upgrade the suspension system

Some cosmetic mods would be nice too
-To use 15inch wheels
-To lower the ride height

All in all, 7k should be enough I guess. So, give it another 11 months, and my 2002 Wira Aero should perform better, and look better.

Come to think of it, I guess I should consider the MIVEC conversion after all, since the half cut price will usually be similar to my budget.

Anybody got an idea which Mitsubishi cylinder head will fit my 4G13 engine?

Full Key Finally

I remember last Monday night, when I'm in the car and are in the mood for some crooning. I remember switching off the radio and went on to sing Foolish Heart, my hero Steve Perry's song.

I actually did sing it full key! None missed, and I sing it better, with no nasal sound. Phew! Finally!

However, mine is a very raspy version, just like the vocals of Jeff Keith of Tesla. Significant difference? Way too different! Steve did it very well, and his voice were clean and full of emotions. He's very expressive.

Some other songs that I have sung successfully, albeit with a bit nasal, would be Open Arms and The Girl Can't Help It, also by Journey, the band featuring my hero yet again.

Meanwhile, I can't sing some numbers, such as Stone In Love and Escape just yet. The need to develop vocal pitch is on the way. Any free lessons anybody?

And, the need to be Don Henley or even Phil Collins rages on. How can you sing good vocals when you drum? I'd like to do that. I'd like to be part of history. Imagine doing the technical Don't Stop Believing, or even the simpler Armageddon It, with the same person doing the vocals and drums together.

Five Became A Hundred

Caught in a crawl for 100 minutes at MRR2. Somebody must have crashed or collided with another, or worse, several other. Then at 9.50, when I arrived to the end of the jam, I realized that for 3 official lanes and 1 illegal lane (read: 4 lanes) to merge into 2 lanes is bad enough, wait till you see it merge into 1 lane. The middle lane is completely blocked by this short crane which broke down in the middle of rush hour.

What usually seems to be a 5 minute jam for the whole of last year, became a 100 minute crawl, just by blocking another lane. And guess where is the strategic location of the breakdown? The notorious part just after the Pandan overpass, where the 3 lanes merge into 2.

Gotta get rid of these leg cramps. It's been a while since I'm caught in these types of timewasting jam.

Of Hospitals And Floods

Elo

Guess I cannot just only wash cars anymore. I need to wax them too. The rain is very unexpected, and it will last forever sometimes.

Went for weekly baby checkup as usual. She complained of less movement from baby. The clinic admitted us to hospital at once. Was hoping for the baby today, but I guess good things needs waiting. Tomorrow is more like it I would say.

Today is non-office day, so went back home after escorting my special partner to the hospital. On the TV, and off myself. Snoozed for several hours, only to woke up from the sound of the rampaging evening rain.

Went back to ward with some essentials for her. Hopefully she'll deliver our baby tomorrow, or anytime soon.

After dinner, went around Serdang area looking for a cyber cafe, since the one in UPM was closed. Finally after driving through lots of flood and jams, found one near Minlon building. Checked my emails away! It will be a few more days before I might be checking my emails, as my wife will need more attention at these moments.
